Advantages of a one page website template
The trend for one page website templates is fuelled by a very justified quest for simplicity and speed. Scrolling is easier and more continuous than clicking endless links. If a user begins to scroll, then you may find them more likely to keep scrolling than to stop and click a link. Of course, sometimes a website absolutely needs more pages when there is more content to include.
Lao Café Website Design
For Lao Café, the decision to go with a one page site was steered by budget as well as content. With a single template, both design time and coding time is often cut down, however this obviously this depends on functionality.
With the remaining budget we were able to style up the Instagram feed to make it more visual within the website. We were also able to include online menus that are editable by the client. This is allows the client to update dishes and prices instantly and easily.
Indeed the whole site can easily be updated by the client. Built using the WordPress CMS (Content Management System), the site is very flexible, allowing for image uploads and text changes. It’s also worth noting the site is responsive — it adjusts to any screen size: mobile, tablet and desktop.

Lao Café Branding
In developing the website we also designed the Lao Café branding. The Lao motif was inspired by a tile design the client captured whilst on a research visit to Luang Prabang. We combined this with a stark sans-serif font and added some ‘distressed’ texture to give a worn, slightly vintage feel, which captures the retro feel we were after.
